For those of you that moved to Seattle, when you had no family/friends there to stay with, how much money did you save up to move there ?

I moved here after school. So -$80,000. Note: I had a job lined up before I moved...

I'm moving to Seattle at the end of this month with approx. $18,000 in savings, mainly because I'm extremely risk-averse and want to play it as safe as I can, but I'm sure it can be done for lots less than that. I'm also moving without a job, so I want to be extra cautious (especially in the middle of a whopper of a recession).

Oh ok..I dont have hardly anything saved up but was wondering if I would be ok if I saved between $2k-5K. I guess not, lol. Even if I am trying to get a studio in the burbs. Tepic, how did you get a job offer in Seattle before moving? I have heard that it is nearly impossible. I have a degree in marketing too, which is a tough field to get in already

I attended a rather prestigious school in my field and the company I work for now was at the career fair. I gave my resume to the recruiters there.

ahhh ok, that makes a big diff. I have only gotten one interview off of a job i learned about at a career fair. They have pretty much been useless to me.

I came here with about 12 grand cash.. I had other money coming to me, so I don't work, but you can easily move here with half that amount, especially if you move in with someone, and are only paying like 4-600 a month.. which I'd recommend unless you just want to live alone. good luck!

Haha I'm (single 23/male with no college) moving to Seattle in a week with only $1500. I have a place to stay rent-free for a few weeks and crappy job lined up.

My wife and I moved out here with about $4000 in the bank, when we rolled in to Seattle. No job, No place to stay, no friends or family. Go there on a Thursday, had a place to move into on Monday morning. In 3 weeks of job hunting, I found a job, adn the wife has had a few interviews, and more to come. If we had to do it over again, we would have waited till we had a few grand more, maybe 6k when we got here. But the money we did have was bleeding from living in the economic hole that is MI. So it was move when we did, or probably never.
